Calculate Spreading Loss

The spreading loss tool calculates the spreading loss used to calculate PFD. The parameters used are:

• $d_{km}=$ path length $(\mathrm{km})$

• $L_{sl}=$ spreading loss $\left(\mathrm{dB}/{\mathrm{m}}^{\wedge }2\right)$

Each of these three can be calculated from the other using:

$$L_{sl}=10{\log }_{10}\left(4.\pi \cdot d_m^2\right)$$

Note that the distance is given in $\mathrm{km}$ but the spreading loss is per ${\mathrm{m}}^{\wedge }2$.
